This is possibly the first
domestically-designed British submachine gun, conceived by Mark Dineley in
1932. Mr. Dineley was the owner of an arms importing company, Dineley
& Dowding Ltd. The external resemblance of this gun to the Thompson is
obvious but internally it is a basic straight blowback gun. It was
chambered for .32 ACP. Interestingly, the barrel is actually taken
from a Ross rifle, cut down to nine inches. The magazine, which no longer
exists, held 20 rounds. The Dineley was tested by the Small Arms Committee
in the early 1930s but was of no interest to them.
