Witton & Daw percussion revolver

witton&daw
A Witton & Daw percussion revolver, c.1857.
Collection of A. Hamon.

This revolver had a reciprocating cylinder that moves forward as the hammer strikes so that the countersunk end of the chambers engages over a chamfer on the barrel, thus giving a gas seal-like system. It was made from a steel body and had a blisset hammer. The chamber held six shots and it was single-action only. Witton & Daw revolvers are marked with WITTON & DAW, 57, THREADNEEDLE ST., LONDON.
